Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol that allows an AI application to use tools and information sources in a controlled way. This guide distinguishes working first-party, reference and community servers, with attention to access and secure management.

What is Model Context Protocol?

A regular API defines how software exchanges data. Model Context Protocol (MCP) adds a standardised layer for AI applications: an MCP server describes the available sources and actions, which a compatible client can then discover and use.

This can be small and local, such as searching a single project folder, or remote, such as consulting official documentation. An API, plugin or connector is not automatically an MCP server. We therefore include only implementations with a documented MCP configuration, endpoint or source code.

The value for the sector lies not in the protocol itself but in its controlled application: searching collection sources, retrieving literature, consulting shared project knowledge or testing digital services.

    Relevant for shared lessons, production plans, grant applications and project documentation already in Drive.

Status, safety and management

An MCP server acts with the permissions you give it. Start with the narrowest scope and use read-only access where possible. Use separate test accounts and project folders, check which tools the server offers, and have a person confirm write, delete or bulk operations.

  • First-party means that the product provider manages the server; it is not a general guarantee of safety.
  • Community requires additional checks of the code, licence, releases and maintenance.
  • Preview or experimental belongs in an isolated trial first, not with sensitive production data.

How this directory was compiled

This first edition contains 10 documented MCP servers, checked on 31 July 2026. Familiarity with the underlying product does not prove that a server exists. Each card therefore links to first-party documentation or the primary community source.

  • Management status, local or remote access, and the main capabilities are stated explicitly on each card.
  • Community projects and previews are clearly labelled and are not presented as production-ready.
  • The practical use in the sector is editorial context, not a claim made by the provider.
  • Before use, always check the current tools, scopes, account terms and log retention.
